Jace is an ENFJ on the Meyers-Briggs scale, also known as a Protagonist-type. At this point in his life, he exemplifies some traits of his type more than others: he's reliable and selfless almost to a fault, with an intense desire to help others and make the people he's closest to happy.
He's fairly comfortable in leadership roles and can be charming when he puts his mind to it. But he hasn't fully developed the polished charisma ENFJs are so known for.
But his selflessness and eagerness to please are something of a double-edged sword - he often finds himself spread thin, trying to help as many people as he can. He's also definitely prone to the weaknesses of his type, especially sensitivity to criticism and fluctuating self-esteem.

Can direct storms, specifically the thunder and lightning; his control is dependent on his emotional state; if he gets very upset clouds might start rolling in/thunder might start rumbling/etc without his explicitly calling them.
When he reaches his full strength/maturity, this will extend to being able to, effectively, conjure storms out of nothing.

Can sense oncoming storms and even predict their duration and severity, to a degree.

Jace is Born
Born to Leotie Redfern and Hania the Thunderer on 2/20/99; Leotie's daughter from her previous marriage, Lisbeth, was six at the time.

Twins Are Born
Jace is 4 when the twins, Graham and Noah, are born born in October 2003.

Parents Separate
Less than a year later, in summer of 2004, Leotie and Hania separate, with Leotie keeping full custody of the kids.

Moving
Fall of 2004, Leotie and the kids move in with her older sister Kateri, on Kateri's farm property in upstate New York

Growing Up
The next several years pass in relative peace and quiet, with none of the boys showing any sign of having inherited their father's powers. All had at least a touch of psychic sensitivity inherited from their mother, but Jace was the only one who developed full-fledged Empathic abilities.
All the kids go to public school and generally lead very normal lives, no different from human kids their age.

Jace Hits Puberty & Develops Storm Powers
February 2011; Jace turns 12, and starts to manifest new powers with the onset of puberty - storm-based powers inherited from his father.

Stormy Times
Over the next couple of years, Jace tries everything his mother and aunt can come up with to help him control his temper/emotions -and along with them, his ability to summon and command storms- with limited success.
He also realizes he's gay fairly early on in this, but compared to the sudden storm powers it seems like small potatoes.

The Incident
Things come to a head in early 2013, just after Jace turns 14. A nosy classmate outs Jace and his boyfriend without their consent, and Jace gets so angry (mainly on his bf's behalf, admittedly) that he summons up a miniature thunderstorm indoors, nearly frying the classmate - and several bystanders, including his boyfriend.
He's pulled out of school shortly thereafter, and his mom and aunt homeschool him, while beginning the process to enroll him in a Circle Midnight boarding school.

Sent to Boarding School
Jace arrives at the academy at the tail end of 2013, and begins learning control in earnest. He also slowly begins to come out of the shell he'd retreated into after the Incident.
